Wendell G. Yarbrough, MDWendell Yarbrough, MD, M.M.H.C
Professor and Chief, Otolaryngology
Wendell Yarbrough, MD, M.M.H.C is the Section Chief of Otolaryngology Department of Surgery, Director of the Head and Neck Disease Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Co-Director of the Molecular Virology Program in the Yale Cancer Center. Dr. Yarbrough joins us from Vanderbilt University where he was the Co-Leader of the Thoracic and Head and Neck Program at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center as well as Professor of Otolaryngology and Cancer Biology. Dr. Yarbrough has a longstanding clinical interest in head and neck cancers and research interests in head and neck cancer translational research as well as identification of tumor suppressors and their mechanism of action. Dr. Yarbrough will be bringing his substantive lab and researchers to Yale to continue their important work.
Clarence T. Sasaki, MD
Clarence T. Sasaki, MD, Director of the Head and Neck Tumor Board, is the Charles W. Ohse Professor of Surgery of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine. He received his BA from Pomona College in 1962 and his MD from Yale in 1966. He completed his residency at the Yale-New Haven Medical Center in 1973 and has completed three clinical fellowships: 1) International Union Against Cancer with Professor Ettore Bocca, Milan, Italy, 1978. 2) International Union Against Cancer with Professor Ugo Fisch, Zurich, Switzerland, 1982. 3) International Union Against Cancer with Mr. Dai Davies, London, England, 1986.

Elias Michaelides, MD
Program Director
Elias Michaelides, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Section of Otolaryngology and Director of the Residency Program. He is a neurotologist and skull base surgeon who provides support for lateral skull base tumors. Dr. Michaelides provides comprehensive care of skull base tumors and other tumors of the ear and temporal bone in addition to cochlear implants and eustachian tube surgery.

Elias Michaelides, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Section of Otolaryngology and Director of the Residency Program. Benjamin L. Judson, MD
Associate Program Director
Benjamin L. Judson, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Residency Program. He specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck. His clinical focus includes treating cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, salivary tumors, skin cancers, and sinonasal tumors.

Mark Bianchi, MD, an Assistant Professor of Surgery in Yale Otolaryngology and Chief of Otolaryngology, Bridgeport Hospital, has developed a strong Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery Program. He also has an interest in sleep medicine and the use of ultrasound in ENT. Dr. Bianchi serves as Chief of Otolaryngology at Bridgeport Hospital and the Director of Medical Student Rotations at Yale Otolaryngology.

Steven B. Leder, PhD
Steven B. Leder, PhD, Professor, is a speech-language pathologist with clinical and research interests in the areas of dysphagia diagnostics and rehabilitation, laryngeal voice restoration techniques following total laryngectomy, and speech and communication enhancement in patients who require mechanical ventilation via a tracheotomy.

R. Peter Manes, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, specializes in nasal and sinus tumors. His clinical interests include minimally invasive, endoscopic treatments of nasal and sinus diseases and tumors.

Joseph Santos-Sacchi, PhD
Dr. Joseph Santo-Scchi, Professor, works on understanding how outer hair cells (OHC) help us hear so well. His lab focuses on electrophysiological assessment of hair cell function and molecular manipulations of the proteins that are important for hearing.

Nwanmegha Young, MD
Nwanmegha Young, MD, Assistant Professor, has clinical expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of voice disorders, including care of the performing voice. Dr. Young is an expert in the diagnosis of neurologic disorders of the larynx and treatment with botulinum.
