At The Breast Center -- Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, we specialize in malignant and benign diseases of the breast. The goal of our surgeons at the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery, is to help you remain healthy with routine breast exams and imaging or to help you become and remain, cancer free.
Early diagnosis is important when it comes to breast cancer survival rates and quality of life. The earlier a cancer is found, the earlier treatment can begin and the better chance there is at catching it before it spreads.
There are two primary ways that breast cancers are discovered. They can either be felt by the patient on a breast self-examination, or by her physician on a clinical breast examination, or they are found on an imaging test of the breast.
