Patient Care

At the Yale Bariatric/Gastrointestinal Surgery Program, our goal is to provide compassionate, supportive care and the safest, most advanced surgical techniques available. As the number one medical weight-loss program in the region, our team of nationally renowned surgeons and weight-loss specialists can help you achieve superior results.

Yale is considered a laparoscopic center of excellence. Our surgeons are specially trained and have extensive experience in using laparoscopic and other minimally invasive weight-loss procedures, such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, LAP-BAND® surgery, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgeries allow patients to recover more quickly, with less scarring and less postoperative discomfort. Most of our bariatric patients recover fully within two weeks.

As faculty of the Yale School of Medicine, our surgeons are highly regarded for their advances in research and innovative surgical approaches. As leaders in their field, our surgeons teach these revolutionary techniques to doctors around the nation and are experts in performing revision, or “re-do,” surgery for patients who have had unsuccessful bariatric surgery in the past.

Our entire team, which also includes specialists in medicine, nursing, nutrition, and psychology, is passionate about helping you achieve success. We understand that the time following your surgery will be the most important, and maybe the most challenging, part of your journey. That is why each and every person at the Yale Bariatric Surgery Program does everything possible to assure that you stay motivated by offering compassionate support, education, and the tools you need to reach your goal and to maintain your weight loss.

Making the decision to have weight-loss surgery does not happen overnight. We congratulate you on taking the first steps to change your life, and we look forward to providing detailed answers to all your questions to determine if bariatric surgery is right for you.
