Dr. David Yuh, Chief of Cardiac Surgery, is a recognized expert in surgical robotics. He is currently interested in using the Intuitive da Vinci surgical robotic system to understand how surgical residents learn technical skills and how to better train them. Dr. Yuh believes that all surgical skills can be broken down into a basic “language” of motion components, much like sounds are used to create words and sentences. Dr. Yuh is using the da Vinci system to identify and track these motion components as residents perform basic surgical skills with the robot. Yuh’s research has been supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation and has been published in many prestigious journals.
