Rotations

Resident Rotations

The first year of our traditional program is comprised of six months on the General Thoracic Surgical Service at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and the remaining six months at the West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital performing adult cardiac and general thoracic operations. Seven Physician’s Assistants and five Nurse Practitioners add greatly to the quality of care on the wards, CTICU, and in the operating room at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The second year of our traditional program is organized into one six-month rotation on the Cardiac Surgical Service at Yale-New Haven Hospital, including the Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Service, and a six-month rotation on either the General Thoracic or the Adult Cardiac Surgery Service, predicated on the individual residents’ career interests. This base curriculum is intended to be flexible and can accommodate a one to two-month elective rotation (e.g., cardiac catheterization laboratory).
