Biography

Dr. Joseph M. Piepmeier is the Nixdorff-German Professor in Neurosurgery and Chief of the Section of Neuro-oncology. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his M.D. from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency training in neurosurgery at Yale University School of Medicine and joined the neurosurgery faculty in 1982. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Piepmeier is a recipient of the Allied Services Award and the Wakeman Award for work in clinical neurosurgery. The primary focus of Dr. Piepmeier's clinical and laboratory work is neuro-oncology.
