Yale Medicine was established in the 1950s as the medical school's alumni bulletin. It adopted a magazine format in the 1960s and has evolved into a school-wide magazine. Full color, which had occasionally graced the cover, was introduced to the interior pages with the Winter/Spring 1998 issue and is now used throughout the magazine. A print issue of the magazine appears each winter, spring, and autumn, and online-only issues appear three times a year.
While its primary audience remains alumni of the School of Medicine, Yale Medicine has broadened its readership to include the greater medical school and Yale University community, national and international media, individual benefactors and prospective donors, and corporate and foundation officers.
