Class of 1954: 60th Reunion
The Yale School of Medicine alumni weekend was very enjoyable and successful for the Class of 1954‒60 years after graduation. Attending were Walt Freeman and his wife Do from California, Frank Gruskay and Gillie Winnick from West Haven, Walker Heap and wife Sylvia from upstate New York, Dan Kornfeld from New Jersey, Harry Miller and wife Kari from Virginia, and Dick Pullen and wife Bobbie from Simsbury, Conn. A special surprise and tribute to our class occurred at the annual meeting of the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine with the presentation to our class president Harry Miller of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.
We enjoyed a wonderful family style meal for our alumni dinner at Skappo, a typical Italian wine bar and trattoria in downtown New Haven. It was enhanced by a family member singing Italian love songs and playing a guitar.
Everyone felt this was wonderful food and the best ambiance for a reasonable price as compared with past alumni dinners. We heard from the families of Fred Federlein, Lee Helberg, Tony Piccirillo, and Jack Gariepy that they could not attend because of health issues.
An extra-special surprise occurred for a few hours on Saturday afternoon with the arrival of Jan Crovatto, widow of our classmate Art Crovatto, and her daughter Jane.
When we parted we all pledged to meet again at our 65th.
