When Mila Rainof, M.D. ’08, died after being struck by a car near the medical campus in the spring of 2008, her donated organs saved six lives. To honor Rainof, whose medical degree was awarded posthumously a month after her death, the Yale-New Haven Transplant Center established the Mila Rainof, M.D., Memorial Lectureship. In October, David Sutherland, M.D., head of the transplant division at the University of Minnesota, and widely regarded as one of the fathers of pancreas transplantation, gave the series’ inaugural lecture in Brady Auditorium. Nancy R. Angoff, M.P.H. ’81, M.D. ’90, HS ’93, associate dean for student affairs, and Sukru H. Emre, M.D., professor of surgery and pediatrics, section chief of surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and director of the Transplant Center, introduced Sutherland.
