How to Make a Referral
We will assess all individuals between the ages of 16 and 45 who are early in the course of a psychotic illness and willing to travel to New Haven for treatment at the Connecticut Mental Health Center, regardless of where they live or their insurance status. STEP referrals come from a variety of sources, including healthcare providers, educational professionals, family members and individuals.
If you are a healthcare professional, please obtain the patient’s verbal consent so can we can contact them directly. Leave the name and telephone number for the patient, as well as your name and contact information on our confidential (voice)mailbox. We will take it from there.
The STEP clinic was temporarily closed for new referrals in October 2012. We are in the midst of reviewing and analyzing the extremely encouraging results of our clinical trial (2006-2012) that compares the outcomes of patients who received STEP care vs. recipients of usual care in the community. Based on these results we expect to refine and expand our services and are presently awaiting the clinical resources that would allow us to care for a larger number of patients and their caregivers. We understand that this is disappointing news to many and are hopeful to soon announce the re-opening of STEP on this site. For those who wish to collaborate or assist with this transition in our services or just have questions, we are happy to be reached via emails to the Director, vinod.srihari@yale.edu.
