Mission
The Women’s Behavioral Health Research Division investigates women’s health and gender differences in relation to mental health, addictive behaviors, and a variety of medical disorders. Targets of investigation are the behavioral factors related to the etiology, progression, outcome, treatment, and prevention of illness and the promotion of wellness.
Translation of Findings
Our research approach emphasizes the translation of findings to clinical and community applications. Our researchers work in laboratory, clinical, community, and services settings with the common goal of generating new insights and practical information on women’s health and gender-specific approaches to the treatment and prevention of disorders and to health promotion.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
To accomplish our mission, we bring together researchers from different disciplines within the Department of Psychiatry and from departments across Yale University to collaborate on the most pressing behavioral health concerns of women. Our collaborations also extend nationally and internationally with universities around the world.
Our Division has a close collaborative relationship with the Department of Psychiatry’s Division of Substance Abuse, and our efforts are coordinated with Women’s Health’s Research at Yale, Yale’s interdisciplinary research program on health and gender.
Our Goals
The aims of our division are to facilitate communication, collaboration, and research activities; and to provide mentorship and career development for faculty and trainees who share the division’s mission.
Our NIH-funded Yale BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health) Scholar Program provides interdisciplinary research skill development for junior faculty interested in a research career focused on women's health and addictive behaviors.
