To study the pathophysiology of major mental illnesses in children, adolescents and adults.

- Genetic, imaging, epidemiologic and cognitive assessment to identify individuals at risk for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or alcoholism. Link to current studies
Current large- scale studies include B-SNIP, a 3000-person collaborative study funded in 2007 by the National Institute of Mental Health to discover how the risk for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is transmitted in families, to identify the most important risk genes, and to discover how genes and the environment affect brain structure and function and BARCS, a 5000-person investigation funded in 2008 by The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, which aims to discover normal developmental patterns of cognitive ability, brain development and scholastic achievement during the transition from adolescence to young adulthood and to show how patterns of alcohol use affect them.
Who is eligible?
Healthy controls and individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, Alzheimer's disease, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, major depression, cocaine abuse, alcoholism. We are also interested in individuals who have either parents or brothers or sisters with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and alcoholism.
