Bachaar Arnaout, MD

Bachaar Arnaout, MD, is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and serves as the psychiatry section lead at the VA VISN 1 Clinical Resource Hub. After completing his psychiatry training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, he specialized in addiction psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, where he subsequently joined the faculty. Dr. Arnaout is board certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, brain injury medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine.

With a primary focus on addiction psychiatry and medical education, Dr. Arnaout has co-edited two books on addiction psychotherapy, utilizing the theoretical framework of motivational interviewing: 'Handbook of Motivation and Change: A Practical Guide for Clinicians' (2010) and 'Motivational Interviewing in Clinical Practice' (2017). He was selected as a 2017-2018 Yale Public Voices Fellow with The OpEd Project, providing him with opportunities to share his expertise and contribute to public discussions.
