Post-Doctoral Fellowship on Serious Mental Illness and Homelessness
The Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry will offer one postdoctoral training position at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this position provides an opportunity for advanced training in working with adults experiencing homelessness and behavioral health problems. Pathways to Independence is a collaboration between Yale Department of Psychiatry and Columbus House, Inc., a homeless service provider in New Haven. The fellow will review medical/mental health records and conduct assessments; write summary reports of medical/mental health information and assessment findings; conduct outreach to homeless individuals with disabilities to connect them with clinical services; provide consultation including referrals and targeted triage to Columbus House case managers and other frontline staff; and serve as liaison between Columbus House, Inc., and CMHC. The fellow will also provide clinical care including triage, intake, and psychotherapy through CMHC’s Acute Services Department.
Public Sector Mental Health Administration Curriculum
The fellow will participate in a secondary placement focused on administration in public sector mental health. This experience will include seminars focused on administration, leadership in mental health systems, and healthcare leadership; access to departmental training opportunities including grand rounds; exposure to state and university leaders in the public mental health sector with opportunities for mentoring; and project work which may include:
- Design and delivery of mental health-related trainings
- Performance of consultation projects
- Participation in system strategic planning and performance improvement activities
