Role at Yale

Tiara graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Women’s Studies. She then attended Southern Connecticut State University, earning a Master’s of Arts in Women’s Studies with a concentration in Public Health. Broadly, she is interested in the intersections of social and economic determinants of gender-based violence (GBV) and HIV prevention and treatment. In particular, her research interest explores the implications of individual, relationship, community, and societal level determinants of GBV (e.g. substance abuse, mental health, intergenerational violence, sociocultural norms, and gender inequalities) on the sexual and reproductive health (e.g. HIV, HPV/STI, and pregnancy) of marginalized women, domestically and globally. She is interested in translating this research into policy and developing GBV and HIV prevention interventions.
