Lauren Utter, Psy.D. is a Postdoctoral Associate at the STEP Clinic at the Yale University School of Medicine. Her background is in Clinical Psychology and she serves as the STEP Family Specialist, providing therapy to STEP clients and their family members. In this role, she also co-facilitates STEP’s monthly family workshops, covering a wide range of topics that are commonly of interest to STEP families, such as psychotic symptoms, substance use, and the importance of early intervention.
Dr. Utter is committed to providing the highest standard of clinical care to young people and their families, always taking into consideration clients’ cultural backgrounds and experiences of trauma. She is a strong advocate of recovery and collaboratively works with STEP clients to help them achieve their vocational, academic, and social goals.
Clinically, Dr. Utter is most interested in the treatment of psychotic disorders and Schizophrenia. She is fascinated by the experience of hearing voices and works to understand as much as possible about this phenomenon in order to help people who are distressed by hearing voices (also referred to as auditory hallucinations). She co-facilitates the only Hearing Voices Support group in New Haven. In her free time, Dr. Utter spends time with her family, friends and pets. She also enjoys traveling and going to used bookstores.
