Catherine Chiles, MD

Associate Professor of Psychiatry

Physician Biography

Dr. Chiles received an S.B. in Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978, and obtained her M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982. She completed residency training in psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine in 1986, and conducted research as a post-doctoral fellow in Neuropharmacology also at Yale. She worked as a Research Psychiatrist at the VACHS, West Haven studying the biological effects of high magnetic fields on acetycholine receptors until 1990. She joined the staff of the VA as an Associate Director of the Psychiatry C-L Service, and assumed the role of Director in 1995. She trains medical students and residents in ACGME-mandated Psychiatry C-L experiences, as well as Chief Residents in Psychiatry, and Fellows in Psychosomatic Medicine as well as Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Chiles has had a practice in general adult psychiatry for 21 years in which she specialized in the care of physicians-in-training. Dr. Chiles has been a member of the Yale clinical faculty since 1990, and joined the Clinical Educator faculty in 2012.
