On Friday, March 21st, nineteen individuals learned they would be joining residency programs affiliated with the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
Sixteen trainees will join the adult psychiatry residency as first-year residents (including two in the Neuroscience Research Training Program); two will join the Solnit Integrated Residency in Child and Adult Psychiatry, a joint venture with the Yale Child Study Center; and one will join the adult psychiatry residency as a second-year resident.
These new trainees represent a broad diversity of backgrounds and interests. Women and underrepresented minorities make up more than two-thirds of the incoming trainees.
Continuing a trend, Yale School of Medicine matched a higher percentage of graduates into the specialty of psychiatry. This year, nearly 7 percent of Yale medical students will pursue residencies in psychiatry, compared with 4.2 percent of graduating medical students in the United States as a whole.
