Tampi is named geriatric psychiatry association's clinician of the year

Rajesh Tampi, MBBS, DMedSci, FAPA was named Clinician of the Year by the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP). Dr. Tampi is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Yale, the director of Masonicare Behavioral Health Services, and an attending psychiatrist at the Dorothy Adler Geriatric Assessment Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The AAGP Clinician of the Year Award recognizes a member of that organization who has demonstrated a profound commitment to the field of clinical geriatric psychiatry by providing, promoting and/or ensuring access to quality mental health care for older adults.

The honor was presented to Dr. Tampi at the Opening Plenary and Awards Session of the AAGP 2013 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California on March 14th.

Dr. Tampi received his medical degree from the University of Kerala in 1995 and his postgraduate diploma from the University of Leeds in 1999. He came to Yale in 2001 as a fellow in geriatric psychiatry and joined the faculty of the Yale Department of Psychiatry in 2002.

AAGP is the only national association that focuses exclusively on the challenges of geriatric psychiatry. Founded in 1978, the organization promotes the mental health and well-being of older people through professional education, public advocacy, and support of career development for clinicians, educators, and researchers in geriatric psychiatry and mental health.
