John H. Krystal, MD, Robert L. McNeil Jr. Professor of Translational Research and chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, has announced the appointment of deputy chairs for research, effective January 1, 2013.

"I am thrilled that Drs. Marina Picciotto and Stephanie O'Malley have accepted the invitation to become the deputy chairs for basic research and clinical research, respectively. Each of them brings new energy, vision, and leadership to these critically important roles," said Dr. Krystal. "As a psychiatrist, having the opportunity to collaborate with a molecular neuroscientist and a psychologist in shaping the future of our department speaks to the centrality of interdisciplinary research in the advancement of research in translational neuroscience and psychiatry."

Stephanie O'Malley, PhD, Deputy Chair for Clinical Research

Dr. O'Malley is professor of psychiatry and director of the department's division of substance abuse research. Her primary research interests include laboratory and clinical trial methods, tobacco use and smoking cessation, and the treatment of heavy drinking or alcohol dependence.
