August 31, 2016

The New Haven MOMS Partnership is featured in a new report by the Urban Institute that seeks to discover solutions for moving people out of poverty.

Authors of the report highlighted the MOMS Partnership’s use of community, government, academic, and institutional partners to promote mental health and economic security for mothers.

The report, "Building Blocks and Strategies for Helping Americans Move Out of Poverty," was prepared with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for a new collaborative called the U.S. Partnership on Mobility from Poverty. Information about the MOMS Partnership begins on page 25 of the report.

According to its website, the U.S. Partnership on Mobility from Poverty will “identify breakthrough solutions that can be put into action by philanthropy, practitioners, and the public and private sectors. … Partnership members will consult widely, seeking out diverse voices and expertise as they examine the causes of persistent poverty and stagnant mobility.”

The MOMS Partnership is cited as an example of an initiative focused on health and mental health. Specifically, the MOMS Partnership harnesses the efforts of community agencies, academic, and government groups in and around New Haven – including Yale University -- to support the wellbeing of mothers and families, with an emphasis on maternal mental health.
