Psychiatry Residents' Association (PRA)

A Welcome from the PRA Co-Presidents

Welcome to the Yale Psychiatry Residents' Association (PRA) website. We are so excited to serve as the co-presidents of the PRA this academic year and we would like to not only express our excitement, but also briefly talk about our roles in this position and our plans for the future!!!

Simply put, the PRA's primary focus is to advocate for residents! This is an AWESOME responsibility and one that Isaiah and I take very seriously. We serve as a liaison between residents and faculty to express the wants/concerns of fellow residents, while also helping to cultivate an educational and FUN working environment.  We are excited to take on this task and look forward to a wonderful year serving as the face for our residency association.

The PRA sponsors many educational and social programs, ranging from master interviewing sessions accompanied by wine and cheese evenings with faculty, to the Psychiatry and Cinema series. We also oversee resident participation in committees focused on resident and medical school education. These opportunities promote cohesiveness amongst the residents, while also affording the opportunity to directly impact and influence the direction of our program. Another HUGE aspect of the PRA is recruiting the new generation of diverse, highly intelligent and interesting residents. We arrange the pre-interview dinners, lead tours around New Haven for applicants, and also encourage residents to host applicants during their interviews at Yale.

Finally, we have several administrative duties, such as organizing the call buddy pairing system, to ensure safe calls on a new service, and administering a general resident survey about the quality of life for the residents. To this end, we will also organize monthly meetings to talk about issues relevant to the residents, or any pressing concerns that need to be addressed quickly. We genuinely hope to use the PRA as a platform for resident advocacy, the voice of the psychiatry residents!

We are truly excited about the future. We have lots of plans in store. Firstly, we are working closely with the information technology committee to update the website. We are also making small changes in the way applicant interview dinners are organized to allow for greater resident participation. Lastly, we plan to explore meaningful ways to foster resident public service in the local New Haven community through fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. Isaiah and I are both passionate about advocating on behalf of our patients and would love to involve the PRA in activities that champion this cause. All in all, it's an exciting time to be a Yale Psychiatry resident!

WELCOME to the PRA!!
