Call Responsibilities
- PGY-I: During PGY-I residents provide coverage during their 6 month block of medicine as outlined by their respective department of medicine. During the 6 months block of psychiatry, residents are call free during their two neurology months and the first psychiatry inpatient month. During the other 3 months of inpatient psychiatry, residents provide coverage at Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital approximately every 7 days.
- PGY-II: During PGY-II residents provide coverage approximately every 10th night. This call is either at the Connecticut Mental Health Center or at the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital.
- PGY-III: During PGY-III residents are on-call in the Crisis Intervention Unit of the Yale New Haven Hospital Emergency Room. Each resident completes his/her on-call responsibilities in a single 6 month block and covers approximately 26 on-call shifts. There are no other on-call responsibilities in the PGY-III year.
- PGY-IV: There is no required on-call during the PGY-IV year. Opportunities for paid on-call are available in several of the Departments affiliated institutions. These moonlighting opportunities are completely separate from the training experience or requirements.
