Application Process

Applicants to the Predoctoral Training Program must be enrolled in an APA or CPA approved doctoral training program in clinical, counseling, and/or community psychology. Predoctoral stipends for 2012 – 2013 will be $26,400 per year, with one month of vacation, and full support for comprehensive medical coverage.

Applicants for the Predoctoral Training Program should submit both parts of the APPIC application form- AAPI and the APPIC Academic Program's Verification for Internship Eligibility and Readiness. In addition, applicants should submit a total of 3 work samples (i.e., diagnostic reports, therapy and consultation reports, research summaries, published article), 3 letters of recommendation, vita and an official copy of transcript. Also include Yale’s application page, indicating which clinical facility is of primary interest and which unit might constitute possible secondary placements. All application material and supplemental forms (work samples, transcripts, letters of recommendation, application page) must be submitted online. Applicants are required to use the AAPI Online to apply to our program for 2012-2013 internship year.

Interviews will be conducted on an invitation-only basis. Predoctoral applicants will be contacted in mid-December to arrange for an interview date. Interviews will be conducted on three days:

  • Friday, January 6, 2012
  • Monday, January 9, 2012
  • Friday, January 13, 2012

To expedite this process, please check your preference for interview dates as indicated on the application form. If you have been invited to interview and are unable to visit New Haven, arrangements will be made to conduct interviews through extensive telephone calls. The date for final decisions for selection of interns is consistent with the policies of the Association of Psychology Internship Centers. Our training program begins on July 1st of each year.

Please complete the application form and use as a cover sheet with your application materials. Again, all application material and supplemental forms (i.e. work samples, transcripts, letters of recommendation, application page) must be submitted online. Applicants are required to use the AAPI Online to apply to our program for 2012 - 2013 internship year. Deadline for submission is November 15, 2011. If you have any questions on the application process, please contact Joan Cricca, Student Coordinator (203) 785-2090 or at psychsec@yale.edu.

It is VERY STRONGLY recommended that all internship applicants subscribe to the Match-News List as early as possible in the process (i.e., subscribe NOW if you plan to apply for internship in the Fall of 2011). MATCH-NEWS is an "announce-only" list, which means that only APPIC can post messages to the list. The volume of e-mail messages will generally be very small, usually ranging from zero to five messages per month. As the Match approaches, the MATCH-NEWS list will be the primary method of communicating important late-breaking news and information about the Match, as well as tips and suggestions about how to make the most of the process. Many applicants from previous years have told us that the messages posted to MATCH-NEWS were extremely helpful to them in navigating the selection process.

NOTE: If you previously signed up for the MATCH-NEWS list and are still subscribed to this e-mail list, there is no need to sign up again. To subscribe to the MATCH-NEWS list, send a blank e-mail message to the following address: subscribe-match-news@lyris.appic.org.
