A professorship has been established at Yale to honor and commemorate the contributions of the late Steven M. Southwick, MD, one of the world’s leading experts on psychological trauma and human resilience. The Director of the Women and Addictive Disorders Core within Women’s Health Research at Yale Marc Potenza, MD, PhD, has been named the inaugural Steven M. Southwick Professor of Psychiatry.

Alejandra Pulido Saavedra, MD, a postdoctoral associate, was selected to receive a travel award to attend and present her work at the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry (ASHP) annual meeting in New York on May 3 and 4, 2024.

Marina Picciotto, PhD, Charles B. G. Murphy Professor of Psychiatry and Professor in the Child Study Center, of Neuroscience and of Pharmacology, spoke to News 12 Connecticut about her research into nicotine addiction. Picciotto is affiliated with the Yale Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (TCORS).

The AACR Annual Meeting is the focal point of the cancer research community, where scientists, clinicians, other health care professionals, survivors, patients, and advocates gather to share the latest advances in cancer science and medicine. From population science and prevention; to cancer biology, translational, and clinical studies; to survivorship and advocacy; the AACR Annual Meeting highlights the work of the best minds in cancer research from institutions all over the world.

Eleven individuals and organizations from across Yale and New Haven were recognized during the annual Seton Elm-Ivy Awards ceremony on April 8.

The results of the national match were announced for psychology internship programs on Feb. 16. Through this process, the Yale Department of Psychiatry's Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology selected its incoming class of 14 fellows who will spend a year training at one of nine clinical sites based at the Connecticut Mental Health Center and Yale New Haven Hospital.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the Yale Child Study Center's Education Collaboratory hosted a first of its kind "Spring Education Mini-Conference." Leading up to the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) and American Education Research Association (AERA) conferences in Philadelphia, YCSC Associate Professor Christina Cipriano organized this hybrid meeting of collaborators from across the nation, all whom were scheduled to present their work at the national conferences later in April.

Tobias Wasser, MD, associate professor adjunct of psychiatry, and Rocksheng Zhong, MD, MHS, lecturer in psychiatry, are co-editors of the book, “Psychiatry and the Law, Second Edition.”
