Biography

Richard Ehrenkranz, MD is a neonatologist who has been an Attending Physician affiliated with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital (NICU, YNHCH) since 1978.He is currently the Director of Clinical Research in the NICU and a physician in the NICU GRAD Program, a follow-up program for former preterm infants and for children with medical and surgical disorders cared for in the NICU following birth.He specializes in nutritional requirements of premature and low-birthweight babies. “My current focus is on early nutritional support for extremely preterm infants to improve growth and developmental outcomes,” he says.

Dr. Ehrenkranz is a professor of pediatrics (neonatal-perinatal medicine) and of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at Yale School of Medicine. In addition to his research on neonatal nutrition, he has been Yale’s principal investigator for numerous multicenter clinical investigations and randomized trials, including a treatment that reduces the incidence of neurological damage in babies deprived of oxygen during birth by cooling them.

Connecticut Magazine has listed Dr. Ehrenkranz as one of the Top Doctors in his field in Connecticut. He has also been listed as one of America’s Top Doctors and in Who’s Who in America.
