Obesity Research Working Group
Dr. Ali is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (General Pediatrics) and of Medicine (General Medicine) at the Yale School of Medicine and is Director of the Yale Adult and Pediatric Integrative Medicine Clinic, and Medical Director of Integrative Medicine at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven.
His clinical practice focuses on the prevention and treatment of chronic disease, including pain syndromes and medically unexplained conditions.
He is principal investigator of clinical and translational studies in fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, food sensitivity, nutritional interventions, diagnostic tests, the human microbiome, and integrative medicine outcomes, with support from federal, foundation, and industry sources. He has published a number of clinical studies of complementary therapies. He is currently supported by a NIH/NCCIH Career Development Award (K23) to study mindfulness meditation in chronic widespread pain/fibromyalgia in adolescents. He is a founding Director of Integrative Medicine at Yale. He has degrees and formal training in psychobiology, naturopathic medicine, integrative medicine, clinical trials, nutrition, clinical epidemiology, public health, health services research, community-based research, leadership, and healthcare economics.
He was previously Integrative Medicine Specialist at the Yale Stress Center, co-director of the Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital, and Assistant Director of Complementary Medicine Research at the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center.
