Dr. Ali is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (General Pediatrics) and of Medicine (General Medicine) at the Yale School of Medicine and is Director of the Yale Adult and Pediatric Integrative Medicine Clinic, and Medical Director of Integrative Medicine at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. He has extensive experience in the integrative management of many chronic diseases in adults and children, as well as teaching patients to optimize their health from a holistic perspective. He is trained in naturopathic medicine, integrative medicine, epidemiology, public health, and research methods.
At Smilow Cancer Hospital, Dr. Ali provides guidance in dietary supplements/natural products and other complementary therapies for cancer patients. The Integrative Medicine Program provides an evidence-based and conservative approach, in close collaboration with the oncology teams, to promote safe and effective patient care.
He has been involved with a number of clinical trials of complementary therapies, including massage therapy, nutritional supplements, and dietary interventions. He is currently supported by a NIH Career Development Award to study mindfulness interventions in adolescent chronic pain. Other current research focuses on irritable bowel syndrome, nutritional interventions, the human microbiome, and community vaccine practices.
He was previously Integrative Medicine Specialist at the Yale Stress Center Clinic, co-director of the Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital, and Assistant Director of Complementary Medicine Research at the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center.
