Includes care of both medical and surgical subspecialty patients with responsibility for both. 4-8 weeks - Short Stay unit; 4-8 weeks - Medicine/Cardiac unit; 4-8 weeks Hem-Onc unit. Supervision by full-time pediatric faculty. On call: Night team. | |
Community Hospitals | 12 weeks |
Includes inpatient and outpatient experience. Supervision by board-certified pediatric faculty. On call: Eight weeks night team and four weeks with no overnight call. | |
Well Baby Nursery | 2 weeks |
Immediate postnatal care of healthy newborns. On call: At home call. | |
Newborn Special Care Unit, | 4 weeks |
Includes four weeks of care of moderately ill and convalescent newborns as well delivery room experience. Supervision by full-time pediatric faculty. On call: No overnight call. | |
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, | 4 weeks |
Includes responsibility for the care of children with critical illnesses as well as postoperative cardiac and neurosurgical patients. Direct supervision by full-time pediatric faculty. On call: Night team. | |
Ambulatory Pediatrics, | 6 weeks |
Includes integrated experience with urgent walk in clinic and general pediatrics. Supervision of full-time pediatric faculty. On call: 1 week Bridgeport cross cover: Night team. | |
Emergency Medicine, | 4 weeks |
Includes broad exposure to busy pediatric emergency department. On call: Twelve hour evening shifts. No overnight call. | |
Continuity Clinic at Primary Care Center (PCC), | 1/2 day per week |

Heme-Onc or Respiratory/Neuroscience Selective Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital | 4-6 weeks |
Includes supervision of 2 PL-1 residents and 2 medical students while covering Heme-Onc, as well as two medical students while on Respiratory/Neuroscience. On call: 3 overnights and 5 short calls (until 8pm). | |
Community Hospitals | 8 weeks |
Includes inpatient and outpatient experiences, including 2 weeks of NICU experience. Supervision of PL-1 residents. On call: Every fourth night for 4 weeks; Variable for 4 weeks. | |
Newborn Special Care Unit, | 4 weeks |
Direct patient care. Experience with acutely ill newborns. On call: Night team.

Two subspecialty electives. Responsibilities for both inpatient and ambulatory aspects of specialties. Work directly under the supervision of pediatric subspecialists. On call: 4 weeks variable call; 4 weeks call free. | |
Developmental Pediatrics & Adolescent Pediatrics | 8 weeks |
Developmental & Behavioral pediatrics rotation places emphasis on children with special health care needs, advocacy, and utilization of community resources. Adolescent experience includes ambulatory care and management for adolescents in school clinics, community settings and specialty environments. On call. Variable overnight call. | |
Moderate Sedation | 2 weeks |
Includes formal training and certification by the Department of Anesthesiology to perform sedation. On call: Call-free overnight. | |
Back-up Coverage | 1 week |
Available to provide coverage for resident colleagues if needed. No scheduled call responsibilities. | |

| Pediatric Advocacy Rotation/Hospital of St. Raphael | 0-4 weeks |
| PL-3 resident has the opportunity to develop a community advocacy project based at a site in New Haven. The resident will perform site visits at various community organizations throughout New Haven to better understand what services are available to patients in our community. In addition, this is an opportunity to supervise junior residents in the clinic. | |
Outpatient Senior Supervisory Resident, Either Primary Care Center - YNHH, or Hospital of St. Raphael's | 8-12 weeks |
Supervise junior residents, organize teaching programs and coordinate housestaff activities, and precept students and housestaff. On call: Variable or at home call. | |
