Yale Pediatrics - A Hub With Many Spokes
Our Program mission is clear: to prepare our housestaff to become leaders in the field of Pediatrics by providing a comprehensive, diverse, exciting, and mentored experience in Pediatric medicine. As a member of our housestaff, you will find yourself in a unique and special pediatric residency program in which you will contribute immensely and from which you will learn. The basics of contemporary pediatrics and the nuances and complexities of tertiary pediatric care are taught in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. These are specifically designed to ensure that families, their children, and our housestaff are comfortable and can interact in a collegial, professional, and effective manner. Your experience in Pediatrics at Yale will serve as your educational hub, and your career opportunities will be unlimited as you set your sites on a practice of your choice: primary care, subspecialty practice, scientific research, quality improvement, child advocacy, or global health. Whatever you choose, it is our intent and commitment to meld both people and facilities in a manner that will benefit your education and result in the delivery of highest quality care for our patients and their families. We look forward to the opportunity to meet you and discuss residency training in Pediatrics at Yale.Alan H. Friedman, M.D.

Chair's Welcome
Welcome to the Pediatric Residency Program at Yale School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. We are deeply invested in the career development of our residents and want to help you excel by aligning your interests with the superb educational opportunities we offer.
We wish to attract enthusiastic, talented, inquisitive, and motivated individuals who are active participants in their education. The residency is a wonderful opportunity to explore the many realms of pediatrics to decide what areas are exciting and fulfilling. We hope to help you learn what professional endeavors will sustain your lifelong need for intellectual growth and personal satisfaction. For those who have defined interests in academic medicine, we have also crafted a number of opportunities specifically designed for developing careers as physician scientists in basic or clinical settings and as physician educators.
The residency will give you the chance to assimilate knowledge and apply it to the care of your patients while having the security of mentorship from more senior residents and faculty.
You will learn the most from those who surround you, and our faculty and residents are dedicated to your education. During this period we will learn as much as you do - from your questions, your curiosity and your insights from exploration of clinical problems. In the process of caring for your patients and their families, we expect that you will develop strong personal bonds, a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, a refined professionalism, and a respect, sensitivity and appreciation for the complexities of parenting. At the same time, we hope the unresolved medical and developmental problems you confront will compel you to search the extensive and sophisticated network of medical resources to serve your patients and your education.Although residency can be demanding of time and energy, it is also a time to laugh, to develop deep friendships, and to enrich your appreciation for the non-professional side of life. We have much to offer as a program and hope you will visit to learn more about us.
