Surgical Pathology is Yale Pathology Labs’ most co-prehensive diagnostic service, reflecting the various subspecialties of more than forty highly qualified physicians. Our board-certified pathologists are experts in most subspecialty areas and offer complete services for all surgical pathology needs. Areas of intense subspecialty interest include the fields of gynecologic, gestational and reproductive pathology, breast pathology, gastroenterologic and hepatic pathology, genitourinary and renal pathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, and ophthalmic pathology, among others.

Breast Pathology
Cancer, intraductal carcinoma, in situ carcinoma, estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, herceptin, Her2/neu, conservative therapy, lumpectomy, calcifications, mammographic-pathologic correlation.
Dermatopathology

Head & Neck and Endocrine Pathology
Squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, laryngeal cancer, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, salivary gland tumors, nasal sinus disease, jaw disorders.
Hematopathology
Hodgkin’s disease, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, lymphoma immunophenotyping/genotyping, immunotherapy, leukemia, myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative disorders, anemia, immune deficiency, opportunistic infections.
Neuropathology
Inflammatory, degenerative, and neoplastic diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system; brain, nerve, and muscle biopsies; histochemical and ultrastructural analysis.
Ophthalmic Pathology
Corneal degenerations, transplant rejection, keratoconus, conjunctival proliferations and neoplasms, eye trauma, inflammations of the eyelids, tumors of the eyelids, lesions of the lacrimal system, inflammation and tumors of the eye.
Pediatric and Developmental Pathology
Developmental, infectious, metabolic, and neoplastic disorders of childhood; Hirschsprung disease, small “blue round cell” tumors, congenital malformations including cardiac and other systems, placental pathology, electron microscopy and biochemical studies of metabolic disorders, immunohistochemistry, and advanced molecular diagnosis.
Renal Pathology and Electron Microscopy
Primary glomerular, tubulointerstitial, and vascular diseases of the kidney, renal genetic disease, lupus and systemic vasculitis, renal transplantation.
