Biography

Dr. Colson left Yale as an Emeritus Professor. She is currently Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Program Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement in the Office of Education at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She continues to conduct research to decrease health disparities and recently received three R01 grants from NIH to support this work.

Dr. Colson served on the faculty at Yale from 1998-2018. She has focused her career on newborn care, mixed methods research and medical education. She has a national and international reputation for her work in preventive care to decrease infant mortality. Her work is supported by NIH and other agencies and foundations. At Yale School of Medicine she served as Clerkship Director in Pediatrics, Director of the Curriculum of the Clerkships and Director of the Interprofessional Longitudinal Clinical Experience (ILCE) component of the curriculum. As a Macy Foundation Faculty Scholar, Dr. Colson helped create a longitudinal experience for students early in their medical education that includes working in the clinical setting with coaches and with students from other healthcare professions. At Yale and beyond she mentors faculty and students interested in medical education research, qualitative and mixed methods research methods. Dr.Colson has published original clinical research articles and has several ongoing projects focused on medical education and infant mortality. She has served as visiting professor and is regularly invited to present at regional, national and international professional meetings.
