Yale Pediatric Orthopaedics

The Departments of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation and Pediatrics are committed to providing medical care that is sensitive to the pediatric patient's social, emotional and developmental needs. Working in conjunction with the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, the Section of Pediatric Orthopaedics is part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the management of children's illnesses and is one of only two such programs in Connecticut. The team works with several pediatric specialty clinics in caring for patients with a wide spectrum of orthopaedic conditions which arise in this age group.

Among special services offered are the following:

  • Bone deformity
  • Cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular conditions
  • Disorders of the hip including hip dysplasia
  • Fractures, dislocations and other musculoskeletal injuries
  • Hand and arm disorders
  • Foot and ankle disorders, including clubfoot
  • Leg length discrepancy
  • Scoliosis
  • Overuse and traumatic injuries in the growing athlete
  • Skeletal dysplasia

Care Centers

The pediatric muscular dystrophy (MD) program, one of five pediatric MDA clinics in New England, offers children and families coordinated, multidisciplinary care for diagnosis and treatment of muscular dystrophy and other pediatric neuromuscular disorders. The program cares for numerous neuromuscular diagnoses, including:

  • Becker's muscular dystrophy
  • Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
  • Duchenne muscular dystrophy
  • Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy
  • Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy
  • Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy
  • Myotonic dystrophy
  • Myotnoia congenital
  • Spinal muscular atrophy
