Fracture Problems

Yale-New Haven Medical Center is a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center. Most complex trauma occurring in Southern Connecticut is triaged to Yale, and the institution serves as a tertiary referral center post-traumatic reconstruction for southern New England.

All members of the department participate in fracture care. In addition to that specific issues with concern to complex reconstructions and fracture problems are managed by this division. The Orthopaedic Trauma Service is lead by Michael R. Baumgaertner, M.D., FACS and is comprehensively supported by numerous orthopaedic and surgical subspecialties.

  • Complex fractures of the upper and lower extremity
  • Pelvic and acetabular fractures
  • Intra-articular and peri-articular fractures
  • Spine trauma
  • Fracture nonunions
  • Post-traumatic deformity and arthritis
  • Poly-traumatized patients
  • Knee dislocations and multi-ligament knee injuries
  • Minimally-invasive fracture stabilization
  • Arthroscopically-assisted fracture care
  • Joint dislocation and ligamentous injuries
