Surgery

The Gynecologic Oncology Service offers gynecologic, gastrointestinal, and urologic surgery for previously untreated gynecologic cancers. It also offers surgery for complications and recurrences of gynecologic cancers, as well as for benign gynecological diseases which require difficult surgical procedures.

Operations for previously untreated cancer:

  • Radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer
  • Cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer
  • Radical vulvectomy for vulvar cancer
  • Treatment for endometrial cancer including:
  • Total abdominal hysterectomy
  • Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy
  • Lymphadenectomy

Operations for complications of gynecologic cancer and other malignancies:

  • Small and large bowel resection
  • Colostomy
  • Fistual repairs
  • Repair of pelvic support

Operations for recurrent gynecologic cancer:

  • Radical resection of recurrent ovarian cancer
  • Radical hysterectomy and pelvic exenteration for recurrent cervical cancer
  • Radical resection of pelvic and abdominal disease for recurrent endometrial cancer
  • Surgical resection of vulvar lesions following surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy

Benign gynecologic diseases for which difficult surgical procedures may be required:

  • Endometriosis
  • Extensive uterine fibroids (leiomyomas)
  • Recurrent ovarian cysts
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pelvis organ prolapse
