Women’s and Children’s Health Clerkship

During the 12-week clerkship, students are scheduled for inpatient and ambulatory clinical experiences in Yale Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and Pediatrics. While on service at area private practices, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital, students see firsthand how pre-conception and prenatal care experiences impact embryonic, fetal and neonatal growth & development. In addition to learning about the many other ways women’s health and children’s health intersect, students participate in the full range of care of women and children on this clerkship.

Throughout their 12 weeks on service students develop their skills in medical simulations on labor, birth, ultrasound and neonatal resuscitation. Students also hone interviewing skills with standardized patients during Shared Decision Making: Options Counseling workshops. Interprofessional training is emphasized in these workshops which medical and physician associate students participate in together.
