Program in Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration, and Repair (CNNR)

Established in 2006, this interdepartmental program aims to build on decades of research in molecular and cellular biology that have revealed a myriad of potential drug targets for neurological diseases. Research at the CNNR aims to further elucidate pathogenic mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and to translate these insights into improved therapies. The research team comprises basic and translational scientists, along with a mix of medical students and residents. In 2009 alone, CNNR researchers have published multiple breakthroughs, including the identification of cellular Prion protein as a key player and potential drug target in Alzheimer’s Disease. Collaborative translational studies are being developed in conjunction with investigators in immunology, physics, radiology, neurosurgery, and beyond.
