Quantitative Neuroscience with Magnetic Resonance

Biography

I received my PhD in Biophysics from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in India. I completed my postdoctoral training at the Magnetic Resonance Research Center, Yale University School of Medicine in the areas of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and neurophysiology. I continued in the field of neuroimaging while applying other modalities such as electrophysiology and optical imaging to study brain function. I am one of the core scientist in the imaging core at Quantitative Neuroscience with Magnetic Resonance (QNMR center) and an Associate Research Scientist of Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine. I have worked on both in vitro and in vivo systems applying various biophysical and neuroimaging methods to decipher central nervous system response. I have extensively worked on high field fMRI (9.4T and 11.7T) of different sensory (forepaw, whisker, visual, olfaction) animal models. I have over 12 years’ experience in the design and implementation of neuroimaging experiments as well as their data analysis. I am applying a number of MRI based techniques including fMRI, Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), electrophysiology and optical imaging to understand how does brain process sensory information. Specific areas of interest include (i) Neurovascular and Neurometabolic couplings in cortex and subcortex (ii) Sensory interactions and multisensory integration (iii) Understanding of the biophysics of brain functioning and facilitating the translation of basic science research to various clinical applications (e.g., healthy aging, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia). Author on 30+ peer-reviewed publications, presenter of 20+ oral presentations, and ad-hoc reviewer for 15 internationally-recognized publications and 3 international funding agencies.
