The recruitment and admission of students to the program is carried out in coordination with the Yale Combined Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. Applications are examined by a Microbiology admissions committee composed of four faculty members from the Microbiology program, the Director of Graduate Admissions, and the Director of Graduate Studies.
Applicants are chosen based on their academic record, letters of recommendation, and research experience. A strong background in microbiology is a plus, but it’s not an essential requirement.
Students selected by the admissions committee are invited to visit Yale. They are interviewed by members of the Microbiology faculty, who provide feedback to the admissions committee. The admissions committee extends offers to the most qualified students. The number of students accepted annually depends on how many funding slots are available.
