If you decide to come to Yale as a regular MD student, you will find that several of the elective courses for MD-PhD students are also attended by many medical students. This will give you an additional opportunity to interact with fellow students to share your interests in becoming physician-scientists. Based on these and other interactions during medical school, about one quarter of our MD-PhD graduates have successfully joined the Program as onboard medical students.
Students matriculated at Yale School of Medicine who are interested in applying to the MD/PhD Program should meet with Dr. James Jamieson to discuss the internal application process. This can be done at any time after matriculation to YSM provided you have not completed all of the requirements for the MD degree.
An important consideration for admission to the MD/PhD Program is an adequate research experience. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. It may be necessary to complete a summer (or the equivalent in time) of research in a lab at Yale for an application to be considered.”
We have other programs available for students who have completed their MDs and clinical training at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation.
