Positions and Appointments
Dr. Sindelar is a professor of public health and a health economist at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. She is also the Chair of the Division of Health Policy and Administration within YSPH. In addition, she is a Research Associate at the National Bureau Economic Research, an Associated Faculty at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale, and has been the President-elect, President, Immediate Past President & founding member of the American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon).
Research Interests
Dr. Sindelar is an expert on the economics of substance abuse including alcoholism, illicit drugs and smoking. Her studies include lost productivity, cost-effectiveness of treatments, social costs, and policy. She has published on the impacts of substance abuse on productivity, educational attainment, gender differences, and related policy issues in economics, policy, addiction, health and medical journals.
Currently, Dr. Sindelar heads projects funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and also collaborates on projects funded by the Veteran's Administration (VA) Health Services and Development Research Program, National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), and NIAAA. She has also been the Principal Investigator and a collaborator on numerous past research projects funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI), VA, NIA, NIAAA, and NIDA among others.
