Background
Broadly, I am interested in understanding how genes are regulated in Trypanosoma brucei. My post-graduate work in Dr. Julius Lukes’s lab focused upon evaluating the use of pre-ATG triplets to enhance the translation efficiency of a reporter gene. My Ph.D. thesis in Dr. Larry Ruben’s lab focused upon the functional role of a signal anchor protein (TbRACK1) during gene translation and completion of cleavage furrow ingression. My current postdoctoral work in the Aksoy lab involves: comparative analysis of the T. brucei transcriptome in various developmental stages; molecular characterization of non-VSG GPI-anchored proteins; and I am also interested in understanding the temporal events of T. brucei transcriptome modulation during tsetse mid-gut invasion.
