Application in vitro of a natural field recorded in vivo strongly controls neural network activity

Interleaved with the control (no field) trials, the indicated electric field was induced (which was recorded in the visual cortex in vivo). Repeated presentations of this electric field resulted in similar network activity on each trial (red traces below). The histogram at the bottom illustrates the strong modulation in neuronal activity in response to the application of the in vivo field.
