The Grutzendler Lab in the Departments of Neurology and Neuroscience and the new Wu Tsai Institute at Yale University is seeking postdoctoral fellows to investigate cellular, molecular, and neural network mechanisms of neurodegeneration. Specific interests include mechanisms of axonal and synaptic pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD), neuroprotective functions of microglia and astrocytes and mechanisms of neuroglial interactions in neurodegeneration. The laboratory has a comprehensive approach to uncover rules that govern complex interactions between brain-cell types in their unperturbed, in vivo microenvironment and to determine how they are disrupted in disease states. Methods utilized include: intravital microscopy in mice (i.e. two photon, label-free spectral confocal imaging of myelin); super-resolution imaging of human postmortem brain; novel cell-type specific fluorescent molecules; FIB/SEM 3D electron microscopy; optical sensors of cellular physiology (i.e. calcium and voltage imaging); optogenetics; chemogenetics; viral-mediated genome-editing; spatial transcriptomics; and proteomics.
