Welcome to the Beardsley Lab

Our lab is probably best described as a chemical biology laboratory. That is we are interested in answering biological questions using basic chemical principles. This approach has lead us to the study of enzyme structure and mechanisms, enzyme kinetics, structure and biochemical properties of abnormal DNA, and structure-based design of enzyme inhibitors.

We are presently working on understanding the structure and mechanism of ATIC, an important enzyme in the pathway for de novo purine biosynthesis. This enzyme is bifunctional, and catalyzes the final two steps in the pathway.
