Reena Kapoor MD

Biographical Info

Dr. Kapoor is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Law&Psychiatry Division, where she performs criminal and civil forensic evaluations in the areas of violence risk assessment, sex offenders, insanity defenses, competence to stand trial, psychiatric disability, and trauma/PTSD. Prior to that, she completed her residency training in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a forensic psychiatry fellowship at Yale. Her interests include correctional psychiatry and the relationship between mental illness and problematic sexual behaviors. In addition, she maintains a strong commitment to the medical humanities, having published essays about her experiences as an early-career forensic psychiatrist and lectured to medical students on the portrayal of mental illness in the media. She is a 2003 graduate of the Honors Program in Medical Education, the accelerated M.D. program of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
