Biographical Info

Michael J. Paidas, M.D., is Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Co-Director of the Yale Women and Children’s Center for Blood Disorders, and Co-Director, National Hemophilia Foundation Baxter Clinical Fellowship at Yale.

Dr. Paidas received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1987, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1991 at Pennsylvania Hospital. Following his maternal fetal medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, he served as a faculty member of Tufts University and New York University, before joining Yale in 2002.

Dr. Paidas is an internationally recognized authority regarding hemostasis disorders and women’s health. He has published over 200 manuscripts, abstracts, book chapters or courses, and has given over 175 presentations. Dr. Paidas is a member of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine and the American Society of Hematology. He is a member of the Board of Directors, Hemophilia and Thrombosis Research Society, and serves as an invited reviewer and/or editor for several obstetrics and hematology journals, as well as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He is a member of the Task Force on Pulmonary Embolism in Pregnancy, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the Rare Bleeding Disorders Committee, Centers for Disease Control.

His research, supported by multiple funding sources, focuses especially on the prevention, detection and management of pregnancy complications, including fetal loss, preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, preterm delivery, abruption , thromboembolism and postpartum hemorrhage. Hematologic disorders of particular interest for Dr. Paidas include inherited and acquired thrombophilias, hereditary antithrombin deficiency, and alloimmune thrombocytopenia. Dr. Paidas has expertise in invasive procedures such as chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling and in utero fetal transfusion therapy.

Dr. Paidas has been recognized by the March of Dimes, Best Doctors in America, and Best Doctors (New York Magazine). In 2009, he received the National Faculty Award by the Counsel on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
