Biographical Info

Keith Choate M.D., Ph.D., is a physician scientist who brings insights from skin biology research to his broad medical dermatology practice. Dr. Choate is an attending physician at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Yale Primary Care Center, Yale Dermatology Associates, and the Veterans’ Administration Hospital. Upon consultation request from colleagues, he sees patients with diverse conditions including skin cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, genetic skin disease, and general medical dermatology concerns. Dr. Choate co-directs the monthly Comprehensive Disorders of Keratinization Clinic with Dr. Leonard Milstone which cares for pediatric and adult patients with genetic skin disorders characterized by scaly, red skin and other associated symptoms.

In his research, Dr. Choate uses cutting-edge next generation sequencing technologies to identify mutations causing genetic skin diseases and his group studies the function of identified genes in normal and disease states. His article detailing the genetic basis of the self-healing skin disorder Ichthyosis with Confetti was published in Science, and, for this work, Dr. Choate received the 2011 Young Investigator Award from the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Choate has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and chapters and presents his work at national and international meetings. He is a member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board for the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin types.
