Jun Deng PhD

Biographical Info

Dr. Jun Deng obtained his Ph.D. in physics at University of Virginia in 1998 and finished his postdoctoral traineeship at Department of Radiation Oncology of Stanford University in 2001. Currently, Dr. Deng is an ABR board certified medical physicist at Yale-New Haven Hospital, an Associate Professor at Department of Therapeutic Radiology of Yale University, and a full member of AAPM, ASTRO, and RSNA. Since 2006, Dr. Deng has been serving on various working groups, subcommittees and task groups in AAPM. In addition, Dr. Deng has participated in organizing AAPM and ASTRO annual meetings and other international conferences since 2006. Dr. Deng has been serving as a Guest Associate Editor for Medical Physics since 2002, on the International Advisory Board for Physics in Medicine and Biology since 2003, has been elected a Fellow of Institute of Physics since 2004, and serving as a panel reviewer for the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program Study Section since 2005. During the past few years, Dr. Deng has received numerous honors and awards such as AAPM Medical Physics Travel Grant in 2008, ASTRO IGRT Symposium Travel Grant in 2009, and most recently, AAPM-IPEM Medical Physics Travel Grant in 2011. At Yale, Dr. Deng's research is focused on kilo-voltage cone beam CT (kVCBCT), kVCBCT scan optimization and dose reduction, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), Monte Carlo treatment planning, biologically conformal radiation therapy (BCRT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), organ motion and deformable registration, and treatment planning optimization. His clinical interests included IGRT, 4D-CT, respiratory gating, IMRT and Monte Carlo treatment planning.
