Biographical Info

Dr. Fahey is the Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Catheterization Laboratory. He has introduced new state of the art techniques and devices to treat patients with congenital heart disease by interventional catheterization in order to avoid open heart surgery. The Amplatzer Septal Occluder ™ (ASD) closure device has been in use in the lab since 2002, since its approval by the FDA. Yale’s Pediatric Cardiology section is the only center in Connecticut to have approval to use this device and one of the few in the northeast. In 2003, the Amplatzer Ductal Occluder ™ (PDA) closure device was introduced to close large PDSs in patients who would previously have required surgery. A new hybrid catheterization laboratory will open in 2009, providing cutting edge therapy for infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease.
Dr. Fahey is the Director of a new Clinic for Adults with Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). This is a new and emerging specialty for this complex group of patients. Their problems span both adult and pediatric cardiology and this is a multidisciplinary subspecialty clinic.
Dr. Fahey also directs a very busy Pediatric exercise stress testing laboratory. The laboratory was the first in the state and gets referrals from throughout the region.
Dr. Fahey also is Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Training program, one of the first in the country.
Dr. Fahey has been a staff cardiologist since completing his fellowship at Yale in 1984. He served as Interim Director of the Section for 6 years. He has clinics at Yale, as well as Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London and Backus Hospital in Norwich.
